UK Signs Fisheries Agreement With Faroe Islands

More cause to celebrate as we sign a fisheries agreement with the Faroe Islands.

This also follows the UK-Norway fisheries treaty (zonal attachment and annual quota allocations etc), great news for the UK, but a disaster for the EU.

Epic win !

A very nice place indeed Bread, although I wouldn't want to be there in the winter....Brrrrrrr

On the right hand side of the first picture is a fish farm, we saw several of these as we toured the island. No disrespect to Scotland, but when I choose fresh Salmon at Tesco I always prefer the Norwegian, It seem more reddish and tastier than the Scottish Salmon. I wonder if it comes from the Faroes...

Hi

Nope, a simple replacement of what we already had as part of the EU.

It is not a disaster for the EU, a simple replacement of £2.46 million in catches.

Absolute peanuts.

We have simply carried over the same deals we already had with Norway and the Faroes.

It benefits England nothing, as Fisheries are devolved.

It benefits Scotland.

I thought, "Oh that's nice." until I read the press release.

The agreement was signed by the UK Ambassador to Denmark, Emma Hopkins, and the Faroese Fisheries Minister, Jacob Vestergaard. UK Fisheries Minister Victoria Prentis joined the ceremony via video conference. It sets out that the UK and Faroes will hold annual negotiations on the issues of access to waters and quotas.
As Swimfeeders said:

In previous years, bilateral negotiations with the Faroe Islands were led by the European Commission on behalf of the UK and other member states. This autumn, for the first time in over 40 years, the UK will be negotiating fishing opportunities for 2021 as an independent coastal state.
It seems to be purely an agreement to hold annual meetings. If that is a cause for celebration you have set the bar very low.

You will be ecstatic to the point of catalepsy when the UK actually signs something significant.
