Boy was I scared? I could have outdone an elephant in poo.

what they did with me is before hand gave me a walk through chat of what was going to happen.
Next was having drops in the eye to numb it . As soon as that took affect it was onto the trolley and wheel in for the op. They covered on eye and worked on the other, I knew and felt nothing.
Afterwards that eye could see but not move until the drops wore off. Sue drove me home as said it looked funny with only one eye moving.

The fear is in not knowing what to expect and happen not the op itself.

I have to have drops in the other eye 3x daily as the pressure was less and drops keep it down
For me, it was nothing like that. The operation was about fifteen minutes. I hope, for Susan's sake, it was much simpler than yours.

I have no idea how long it took to be honest. Only too glad it is over. The prep was the longest time waiting for the eye drops to work. Had two lots in the eye a few minuits apart

Doesn't sound long, but it is just the thought of it.

Thank you all
Thanks, Susan, hope they've helped you also. I haven't been able to do anything about it yet & the optician did say they probably weren't bad enough to warrant the ops yet. I guess yours are the same. Fingers crossed for us both that eventually all will be well.

Re: Cataracts advice please

Have any of you who's had the cataract ops had to spend time afterwards sitting forwards, face on cusions or pillows - not allowed to sleep on your back even?

Sounds crazy I know, but that is what my friend was told it entailed.
She couldn't possibly do nothing all day but sit with her head on a cushion for days or weeks, as she is a very busy lady and lives alone.
She did some research and found there are two or three ways of doing this op, and the hospital she was going to, only did it this way.
So she found a different hospital who did it a different way and other than drops, checkups and taking care, that was all there was to it. She has never had any problems since.

Try not to worry too much if you can help it Susan, though I would be exactly like you, because like others have said, it only takes between 15 - 30 mins I believe, and is 98% successful, which is very encouraging.
I am sure you will be absolutely fine.

Mrs LD was told not to do anything that put pressure on the eyes, like housework, scrubbing the step, that sort of thing.

Have any of you any advise for me please . I'm being a bit of a wimp
If they need doing why wait? The operation is only a few thousand dollars done privately. I have cataracts but they are not bad enough to have anything done about them yet but when they do need doing I will pay cash and get it done straight away.

It only takes a few minutes apparently, get a quote off the specialist. What else are you going to be doing with your money?

I seem to remember that the cost per eye is between £3k -£4k in the UK.
