They EU bailed out the banks and financiers in Greece and left the little people to swivel in the wind. In Greece, the little people had their life savings in the banks and businesses. When the crash happened they lost everything. One man who lost 100,000 committed suicide which hit the news at the time.

The EU bailed out its financial chums.

From what I can see Greece as a country didn't do too badly.

But I am still left wondering where the fault lies in this greek tragedy....

Greece hardly collected any taxes. The super rich were exempted from paying tax. Corruption was rife, almost certainly the worst in Europe

The people relied heavily on tourism and the annual fluctuation of the currency to supplement income, the stability of the Euro brought the house of cards crashing down

Socialist Govt paying too high pensions and retirement age of 50 also didn't help. greece could not afford that so when the EU offered the Euro and an endless supply of super-cheap borrowing without doing their due diligence what was Greece to do?

Truth us the Eu economic policy is designed for 24/7 Highly developed industrial economies that can be exploited by global multinationals

Greece's economy is mostly seasonal with people working full on for 7 months of the year in the tourist industry...and then going back to their small family run smallholdings tending their animals and olive groves in the close season.

Just the sort of difficult to control econoy the EU detests.

The French and German banks bailed out Greece and now make £billions on the repayments.

Additionally, The Value of the Drachma used to swing massively between the holiday season an the winter there was a huge black economy profiting from this but paying no tax
