Re: Chinese Coronavirus

On March the 2nd, the U.S. had 62 confirmed cases of the coronavirus. Today, 7 days later, the count is up to 611.
That is an increase of 1,000 % in a single week. You don't need to be a mathematician to realize that if that continues, the numbers will be in the millions in another month.

Is that likely ? Heck, I have no idea.

A local hospital chain (Scrips) has announced that no one will be allowed inside the hospitals if they have a fever and/or trouble breathing. What the **** do they expect us to do ? Just walk out into the parking lot and die ?

That's the problem with having a private health care system rather than a public one. We are told not to go to the GP but go to the hospital if you have a respiratory illness.

Having said that at the moment the message seems to vary from state to state, this is one area where the Federal Government needs to take the lead even though health is a state responsibility.

Interesting statistic of cases per one million population.

Australia 3.6
UK 4.7
USA 2.1

I heard on the radio this morning a call to introduce more widespread quarantine in Sydney because it is the only place affected with the virus in NSW.

Re: Chinese Coronavirus

Since writing the above I came across this:

Updated health advice for Australians

The symptoms of coronavirus include:

Fever
Cough
Shortness of breath; and
Breathing difficulties

If you suspect you or a family member has coronavirus you should call (not visit) your GP or ring the national Coronavirus Health Information Hotline on 1800 020 080.

It would be interesting to compare those figures with the sizes of the country's:

Australia: 7.692 million sq km
UK: 242,295 sq km
USA: 9.834 million sq km

Population density is obviously a factor.

Re: Chinese Coronavirus

The drastic rise of new cases is concerning, 1000% rise in a week should signal a million next a month.

Only two weeks ago China were recording 3000 new cases a day.

Today China has only recorded around 47 new cases.

Hopefully this will be the trend for the rest of the world.
