Re: What human food can dogs (safely) eat

Many decades ago when I lived in south London I had a Red Setter that contracted distemper. She was extremely ill and the only thing she would eat was my then first wife's Bolognaise meat sauce which was hot with lots of chilli and a fair bit of garlic and onion.

The dog survived and was back to her usual self after the experience

Now that would surely be compound munchies? The more you eat over time the more you want to eat!

Two items that are great for relieving dogs upset stomach are boiled chicken and rice. Food that’s bland. It works well and is an easy fix

That's what the vet recommends but Teddy agrees with you that it's bland. He will eat the chicken and leave the rice. In fact I think his IQ is higher than mine

Anyway I am happy to report that today we had a nice normal poo! What a relief! I fed him an apple a couple of days ago. Maybe that helped.

Annie, you perhaps already know, but don't let him eat the apple core with the pips. The pips contain small doses of cyanide.
Doubt if just a few would hurt him, but I wouldn't let him have too many.

Hi Mups yes I did read that and made sure I sliced every bit of core out. They said to leave the skin on as it's good roughage. They put him on some Youmove vitamin supplement for his joint / knee luxation issue last month. Not sure whether that is connected with the tummy issues.

Pig Ear Strips.
One of our neighbours gave our dog some treats. The other dogs didn't seemed to dislike them but ours wanted to wolfed them up. Slowly. So far, no adverse effect.

Well I think I've nailed it. He had a bad experience with diarrhoea in the night and I've looked up the yumove tablets. It seems they are causing his problems because a number of others have seen dog bowel movements affected and loose stools etc. This is so annoying as the Vet prescribed them! I'm defrosting some chicken to cook up for the poor boy. He is so embarrassed and distressed. Good job it's a nice day for washing! I'm going to stop the tablets and hope it will clear up.
