I remember old Realist saying something about that.
Wasn't it a Faraday box or something?

I wonder what they'd say if they found your smart meter wrapped in tin foil?

That's an interesting point, I don't have a smart meter but my electical fuses and meters are outside in a galvanised steel case which is a Faraday cage.

I wonder if they have to put an aerial outside the box or perhaps the wiring itself is an aerial?

Re: smart metres

I had the smart meter fitted on Friday...I am now obsessed with the little display box they have given me tell me how much I am spending right now and how much energy I used boiling that kettle
It’s ruling my life, I shall switch it off and hide it in a drawer..the meter is smart but not the helpline for Eon ..trying to switch my nighttime rate Economy 7 onto the day rate seems to be impossible.

That would not usually be for a Faraday cage. More for radio frequency interference.

No to smart meters. I am aware of what I use and I pay my bill. That's all they get from me.

I agree.
As 'Gerry' said:

"It's all about energy rationing at peak times because there won't be enough generating capacity as older power stations are decommissioned"

and I'd add that the more electric cars people buy, the more our generating capacity will be strained, especially as we are not building new nuclear power stations, but relying on windy days - but not too windy because the windmills are turned off when it's too windy!
I think it's what they call 'planning'!

This is not only feasible, but likely.
Surely, no-one believes that they are going to all this trouble just so that we can see how much energy we are using!

I know how much energy I am using due to two indicators:
- I know which of my appliances use the most power; and
- I can tell from my bills how much I'm using.

Smart meters are an enormous con, and I shall resist them for as long as I can.
