Re: Brian Woolenough has died
Yes Alison, sad to read that Brian has died at the age of 63, he had been fighting bowel cancer for a long time.
Brian worked at The Sun for 27 years and became chief football writer, before being headhunted by Daily Star in 2001 where he became the chief sports writer.
A brilliant reporter who knew his craft inside out, always polite and respectful but got to ask the questions others would only quake at. He was a nice man but that did not stop him ripping strips off a world cup official face to face in 1993 after a dodgy decision may have cost us a place in the 1994 World Cup finals.
His scathing writing also demolished Norwich City in 2004 which caused a few flutterings around the canaries camp, the fact that they were subsequently relegated proved his value.
In 2007 he took over as the presenter of Sky Sport's Sunday Supplement, replacing Jimmy Hill.
Farewell Wooly, time to hang up the notebook.
RIP
