They get paid as you rightly state Longdogs, not only that but in my case I am paying 40 a week into the Council coffers basically for just a quarter of one bin to be emptied weekly and having to sort the recycling too!

Council Tax is now my biggest weekly outgoing, it costs as much if not more than my food! Get all the recycling sorted countrywide and Council Tax might, just might go down from the rip-off levels it's now at!

Re: Where the plastic goes

We have weekly collections - recycling alternating with household waste.

Household waste goes in one black wheelie bin - but it must all be wrapped. To this end I bought a roll of 'biodegradable' sacks to line my bin - they biodegraded before collection day - so the men would not empty my bin. Had to buy standard plastic sacks and repack everything ready for the next collection.

Recycling we have a green wheelie bin for garden rubbish, which is collected early by a separate vehicle, and three boxes for everything else - one for glass, one for plastic/tin and one for paper/card - all to be sorted by the householder. The vehicle that used to collect had three appropriate compartments. Then the new - huge - improved vehicles arrived! Now, 10 minutes before the vehicle is due, men come down the street pushing giant wheelie bins. The contents of the recycling boxes are ALL emptied into this one bin which is then hooked up and emptied into the collection vehicle.

Why then do we have to separate our recycling ? What a waste of time.
