To avoid the need for decent hygiene standards among livestock. So they can be reared in filth as long as they are chlorine washed after slaughter. It's cheap and nasty.

Exactly, and there’s no incentive or aspiration to achieve bacteria free flocks

It is nasty but it's not our call and our moral indignation is hollow when you think we allow grouse shooting , which is the raising of birds to be blasted by a shotgun and we transport livestock across the EU over days in shocking conditions.

All we can do is have our own standards and not buy food we have concerns about.

Not wanting a trade deal with the USA because they have 320million people to feed and therefore have resorted to dubious farming methods seems extremist.

There is more to UK-USA trade than chicken.

It didn't really explain anything regarding salmonella, which was my point on this subject, only that increasing chlorine levels for washing produce does not reduce further the levels of contamination for e-coli, especially in salads which are already consumed here and imported from Spain.

The chlorine washing is just another non-tarrif barrier to protect the epic disaster that is the European Union.
