How to spend £16m in Harrods - Zamira Hajiyeva

This follows on from

Woman who spent £16m in Harrods revealed

https://www.over50sforum.com/showthread.php?t=56602

Now details of Zamira Hajiyeva's spending and the complex financial arrangements behind her unexplained wealth are available:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48433012

In all, she spent £16,309,077.87 in Harrods between 29 September 2006 and 14 June 2016 - and almost £6m of it could be directly linked back to 35 credit cards issued by the bank her husband is accused of ripping off. In all, she apparently used 54 credit cards.

She began modestly at first - spending £842 on children's books and £140 on perfume.

Later came £1,600 of Miu Miu designer clothes and a further £1,539 on Ferragamo shoes.

Then the amounts began to soar. There was an unspecified payment to Harrods of more than £66,000 and more than £17,000 for goods from the designer Tom Dixon.

Just after midday on 20 June 2008 she paid £925 at the underwear and socks counter.

One hour and three minutes later, the Cartier jewellery till received a payment for £433,389.79 - the largest clearly identifiable spend on the schedule.

The most curious payment is £99,000, which went through the till at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo - Disney's then exclusive boutique in the store.

It's not clear what this is for, given that the boutique charged £1,000 an hour for a prince or princess children's make-over.

That mystery aside, she was not short of credit that particular day - another £160,000 went on Boucheron jewellery.
The article contains much more detail and is very long, but some might find it interesting .....

Mrs Hajiyeva has repeatedly denied wrongdoing, and is appealing against the NCA's action against her.

Woman in £16m Harrods spend loses wealth seizure challenge

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-513873...-correspondent

A woman who blew £16m of unexplained wealth in Harrods has lost her appeal against a National Crime Agency bid to seize her luxury London home.

The Court of Appeal has rejected Zamira Hajiyeva's attempt to stop the UK's first ever Unexplained Wealth Order from being implemented against her.

Mrs Hajiyeva must reveal how she became wealthy enough to buy a mansion near Harrods and a golf course in Berkshire.

She faces losing the properties if she can't provide proof of income.

Mrs Hajiyeva's husband is a state banker jailed for fraud in their native Azerbaijan.

The couple deny all wrongdoing - and Mrs Hajiyeva has not been charged with a crime in the UK.

Dismissing the appeal on Wednesday, Lord Justice Burnett, the Lord Chief Justice, also refused to allow Mrs Hajiyeva to take the case to the Supreme Court - and ordered her to pay the National Crime Agency's (NCA) legal costs.

The court's decision means that senior judges have given a green light to the NCA and other police forces to use the UWO power in the widest possible way.

It means they can seek to seize assets of suspected criminals with links to foreign corrupt regimes and, crucially, members of their family who are living in luxury in multi-million pound homes in London.

Three other unrelated UWO cases are due to be heard soon.
Excellent .....

Harrods mega-spender loses Supreme Court challenge

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55389134

The Supreme Court has rejected an attempt by a woman who spent £16m in Harrods to overturn the UK's first Unexplained Wealth Order (UWO).

Zamira Hajiyeva, wife of a jailed banker, may now lose her £12m London home - and a separate golf course - if she can't explain her riches.

The court said her challenge to the UWO raised no arguable point of law.

Her lawyers had petitioned the Supreme Court to consider her case, saying she had not been lawfully targeted by the NCA.

That application has now been rejected without the court hearing the case at all - meaning that all her rights of appeal are now exhausted.
So, her explanation for her assets .....
