Latest telephone scam

Not sure if this has already been posted but it doesn't hurt to repeat it.

You might get a telephone call claiming to be from BT. A recorded message in a lovely Jamaican accent, tells you that your internet has been compromised, press 1 to continue.

Don't press 1 or you will be put through to a ''technician'' who will attempt to get into your computer. At the very least, you could be charged a lot of money for the call.

Thanks for the warning dongles.
There are so many scams now, it's awful isn't it.
One supposedly from Inland Revenue has been doing the rounds too.

I get reports sent through to me from our local Neighbourhood Watch, and a couple of police forces too. There is much going on. We will be frightened to answer the phone in the end!

The worst thing is that nothing is done about it. Surely if we have the technology to send people to Mars, we can stop a few phone calls.

Re: Latest telephone scam

Another I had recently a few times...a message on my mobile saying I'm so sorry to tell you my husband's dad died last night I knew you would want to know..... Its from a name not recognisable so obviously you feel you want to tell them they have the texted in error but something told me to just ignore it....I then had about six follow up texts telling me they were sorry they texted me in error and how upset they were about it.....

Few days later I had another text only this time it was someone's brother who died. I expect if you text back you let them know your number is live to sell on or you are charged a lot for the text....not sure how they benefit to be honest but I ignored them anyway.

Thanks summer. I also don't understand how they benefit from these things but obviously they gain financially. This is the sort of thing the phone companies should be cracking down on. I'm lucky in that I am on PAYG and I rarely have more than £10 in credit.

Re: Latest telephone scam

I'had a couple of these lately, but why would anyone even listen to a robotic message, let alone pay any heed to it?

Re: Latest telephone scam

When I get the geezer telling me there's been a security issue with my computer, I say, thanks for letting me know, I'm surprised there's only one.
