Re: Are You Or, Have You Ever Been Frightened Of Committment?

It depends on the circumstances at the time.

I wouldn't want debts to pay off, or a mortgage committment now.

I have never found a problem commiting myself to caring for another animal in need though.

Regarding commitment to another human being, my parents have died now, but I looked after Mum for the last 7 years of her life.
My son is grown up and long been independent. Can't see him every committing to anyone though.

Committing to another personal relationship would not exactly terrify me, but I imagine I would be a lot more cautious now and probably just a little scared too, if I'm honest..

No, I have never been afraid of commitment when it comes to relationships, in fact I have always welcomed it. As for financial commitments such as purchases and loans, I have always been impulsive but worry about it afterwards.

Re: Are You Or, Have You Ever Been Frightened Of Committment?

I'm committed to looking after my wife, family and be there for them when I need to be. I also look after myself and my health where I possibly can do. That doesn't frighten me, it's a mandatory part of life.

I'm committed to ensuring I go to work to pay the bills to cover our household outgoings, food, pay the car's running costs with a little extra for meals out, socialising and a holiday once a year. That doesn't frighten me either, except seeing what little there is left every month after it's all dealt with.

I do get perplexed (but not frightened as such) when I try to make other plans which I need to carry out and ensure I am on time with everything.

Re: Are You Or, Have You Ever Been Frightened Of Committment?

I was thinking just yesterday that I don't want a relationship now after yearning for one for years
I know it sounds awful but I couldn' t cope with someone close dying, which would probably happen in the next few years at this age.
After hearing about our dear Nom I feel I could be right about this.

I understand that perfectly Tess.
That is one fear I would have too. Loving, then losing someone.

Hi TessA.
A big shame about Nom. I knew he was very poorly but nothing more but I may have missed some posts. Have you heard anything else?

Okay thanks TessA. I know we're not allowed to mention other members like this, but I was concerned about him. Hope he's okay

Re: Are You Or, Have You Ever Been Frightened Of Committment?

I remember way back in the 60s when i took out my first mortgage. It was with the GLC (Greater London Council) The interest rate was 7.125% which was fixed for the duration. The house was £4150 and the monthly repayment was £25 per month. How on earth can i afford that money every month?? I was earning £16 a week. That took some commitment. That same house is now valued at £330.000.
