Seriously, though, I believe there have been a couple of reported incidents (world wide) of a love bite damaging a carotid artery, but although theoretically possible, I somehow doubt it unless the person giving it has a kiss like a vacuum pump.

It's a good question, Art and I agree, although I haven't really been looking too closely at new romantics lately.I had a friend once, well a colleague who was I in the RAF with and we were based overseas in Belize, going back to 1991. It was a single men's posting and this lad, who was besotted with his girlfriend back in the UK, got drunk one night and "led stray", ending up in the local brothel which was about half a mile from the base's gates.
He didn't come back to our barrack quarters until early the next morning and was covered with love bites all over his neck. He was in a state of utter fear and humiliation because he was due his "R&R" and was meeting his girlfriend in Cancun, Mexico that following weekend.
Anyway, his bites had faded not too well and we all wanted to know how he explained it to his fiancée. he told her they were leech bites after he fell into a paddling pool at the base.
Apparently she believed him and they eventually got married.
Hopefully he never strayed again...
