I'm torn about 20 Pound Notes!

Earlier this week, I pulled out a 20 pound note to pay my bill in Harefield Hospital Cafe.

The lady grimaced - then handed it back.

Turns out that it was torn 30% across the middle.

"Can't accept that" she said.

I asked to speak to the boss - and she said the same!

Very embarrassing in a big queue!

I had to take it to my Bank, later, and they gave me a new one - but only after taking my Bank card and checking my account!

Is this the norm these days?

It sounds as though gone are the days of sticking a bit of sellotape over it. Mind you, I wouldn't mind a brief casefull of 'em.

I have had a number of bank notes stuck together with tape over the years and no one has complained

I have also known people who have only had a piece of note with the serial number on and the bank accepted it.

Only Britain could bang on about reducing plastic, then make all their bank notes out of it.
