Well I did as I was told and didn't contest it - and got a £60 fine and my license endorsed!

No DA Course offered! stevmk2
In order to qualify for the course, the driver must not have exceeded the speed limit by excessive amounts. Each force will set it's own trigger speed limits

So you see it depends on the speed and it varies in different force areas stevmk2.

That's interesting to know Myrtle. I suppose Crewe isn't too far away. It'll be a trip out. Shall I pick you up?

Oooh yes please ! I'm not doing the course with you but I love the shopping area in Crewe - I sometimes go on the bus from Macclesfield to Crewe - I don't care if the driver speeds

Re: Been caught speeding

i have had 3 in 40 years of driving not once did i get offered a drivers course ..my son got one for using a mobile phone at the wheel when he wasn't .....all he done was picked it up to look at the time whilst stationary at a traffic light and he had a handsfree kit as well ....sometimes they can be a bit over zealous and cameras do differentiate or listen to reasons , but then neither to the law sometimes ..my sister was 9 months and ready to pop going home late at night and as it happens needed a pee ..she was doing 37 in a 30 zone and got stopped breathalysed...car examined ....£60 fine 3 points and wet herself ....

Sorry but I don't regard 47mph as excessive in a 40mph zone Pats.

Years ago a Beds PC told me that they say 10% plus 5mph - go above that and you are nabbed but I was "done" by a Beds CC camera so it's different!

I was told by a Beds Police Officer I'd automatically be offered a DA Course as I'd never had a speeding fine and the last endorsement I'd had was 1974 and that was an insurance violation due to the Insurance Company getting my Registration wrong - GMN insted of GNM but I'd didn't notice but it's still classed as my fault.

All I had to do was accept the judgement of the Court on the speeding and he told me I'd be offered it, but that didn't happen because Bedfordshire Police suddenly withdrew that option!

Had I known that I'd have argued that my driving record proved that my past standard of driving was good and this was a one-off distraction event. stevmk2

Sorry stevmk2 but we don't make the laws do we.

Speed awareness courses are offered at the discretion of the area police force in which you were caught.
