Dental Horror Story

When I was about 30, I had to have my 2 bottom wisdom teeth out because they never emerged. It was supposed to be fairly routine at my regular dentist.

Well, I was put under & my husband was waiting for me in the waiting room.

Part way through, the dentist realized it was far more complicated than he thought. He called a specialist & my parents drove to pick my husband & I up to go there.

I had to be walked (helped) out of the dentist office by my husband & parents as I was still pretty much under anesthesia. Anybody watching, & I'm sure there were as it's a busy intersection, must've wondered what was going on or decided to never make an appt. with the dental office I was leaving!

I couldn't edit for some reason & I hadn't finished the story!

Anyway at the specialist, everyone waited & they told me later, they could hear loud cracking sounds, etc.! No screaming tho!

Sounds like the specialist had his foot on your chest to get a good grip on the tooth AC, shades of W.C. Fields short film "The Dentist", I can just picture you.
But I'm glad it worked out alright in the end and you lived to tell the tale.

Re: Dental Horror Story

Glad to see you are OK after all of that Autumn.
In England you used to have to go to hospital if you needed
Wisdom teeth taken out, especially as a young person.
If the dentist is not very experienced then you would probably
end up at the hospital like a friend of mine a few weeks ago.
They left broken parts in the gum and she had to go to have
it finished off at hospital.

Re: Dental Horror Story

Let's see.... when I had my lower teeth extracted for my denture, I had the two bottom wisdom teeth as well as 11 other teeth pulled at the same sitting.. Just novacaine.. I was wide awake. Then the denture was slapped in over the freshly mutilated gum and I went home. Pain pills and vodka.. I lived, but I have said I will NEVER allow that to happen to my top teeth if and when I have them removed for the full denture.

Sandy darlin' - I still have to go to hospital for tooth extraction as I'm prescribed Warfarin and my dentist won't touch me .

I had to have mine removed too, had to go home from hospital on the bus looking like a hamster! It all just kept swelling up & had to go back to have the stitches loosened to let the blood out! I was supposed to go back, never did!

You never know Jem, I've read about goings on in surgery rooms with doctors, nurses & patients who are out of it.

You don't know the half of it darlin'. I've had major surgery (hip and knbee replacements) and I was conscious throughout each operation (I had epidural spine block for each of them, so wasn't in pain)., but was able to chat to the surgeon and his team throughout the operations..
