I didn't know that Floydy. They look quite nice in white.

Re: A BT Telephone Box!

In 1958 I was doing my Radar training at the Watt Memorial School in Greenock.

In the evening I would walk, from the digs, to make or take a call from my fiance, Anita.

We would time it for exactly the same time as she had to walk to the red box not far from home.

Not very clever as we often found that other people had similar timing demands, on one or other of the phone boxes.

It wasn't unusual to find yourself talking to a complete stranger.

Or getting told to hurry up!!

They would be tapping on the glass with their pennies!

Re: A BT Telephone Box!

Some years ago now, I worked in North London. One night after doing a late stint, I got in my car to drive home. On the journey, I noticed someone laying on the pavement who looked like they needed help. I pulled over and asked the man if he was Ok but he said he had been stabbed and needed an ambulance. It was 2:30 in the morning, no one else around and before mobile phones, so I said I would find a phone box and ring for help.

I was frantically trying to find a phonebox to get help for this man. Eventually, I found one, probably 20 minutes later and called for help. I explained to the operator that I was nowhere near the patient but told them where he was.

I never found out what happened to him. There was nothing in the news so I assumed he had survived but what has always bothered me is that when I drove past the same spot the following day, I realised that he had been lying about three yards from a phone box which I hadn't noticed.
