Brexit Lorry Park

‘Brexit lorry park’

Indeed, the trial at Manston was plain daft, just goes to show how devious the government can be when it wants something done in a hurry. Kent council was given such short notice of the intended customs centre that it had to hand-deliver letters to residents warning them of the disruption.

And your point is?

If the land is used as a secure Freeport which is more than possible it will be a win win for Kent and the whole of the UK.

Sounds more like an overflow for clogged up roads to dover. And a convenient place to perform all the extra red tape forms. It helps to perform the frictionless trade boris promised for after brexit.
Because blocked roads to dover was a part of project fear, wasn't it?

As ten freeports have a negligible effect on economy, one freeport more won't be a win for all of the UK.

The government's plan to create so-called freeports will have a "negligible" benefit to the UK economy,*trade*experts have warned.
The UK Trade Policy Observatory said its analysis had found that the policy would have little effect in the UK because tariffs were already low.

Re: Brexit Lorry Park

Ashford MP Damian Green has described the scheme as "wrong-headed", raising concerns over the site's location and lack of consultation.

MP Rachel Maclean says there are two proposals for the land – a temporary holding area for lorries if there is disruption at Dover and as a location for border-related checks.

Department for Transport spokeswoman said residents will be kept updated on the scheme.

"At the end of this year the UK will become a fully independent country and take back control of our borders," she said.

Then it won't be necessary of course. Boris et al promised frictionless trade after brexit. Or is this another of his lies?https://www.businessinsider.nl/boris...itable-2020-2/

PM is juggling too many balls, trying to do too much and at risk of dropping a few.

Then he should try first to understand what he himself is saying, and second to be honest about it. Like the customs regulations between northern ireland and the rest of the UK. Now businesses have barely time to prepare.

The proper hard border should be between Eire and Ulster - and I do mean hard.

As for smooth imports and exports what matters is not trade with the horrid EU but smooth trade with the rest of the world. Nothing would please me more than to see an Iron Curtain between the UK and the EU.

Once the EU starts to disintegrate which now will be very soon what will matter is trade with the newly independent once more European states.
