Of course, on the Monday the Council went through the normal court removal procedure, but by the time they had departed, the mounds of rubbish and filth they left and the Council having to clean up the once beautiful shrubbery surrounding the cricket pitch (which they simply used as an open toilet) the bill ran into thousands of pounds. They completely destroyed the pitch. It was heartbreaking to see the damage they had caused.

I will be glad when we leave the EU so we no longer have to put up with the ridiculous rules and regulations we have to adhere to with regard to this pond life!
Were they charged with criminal damage?

Why not?

Not a criminal offence if on private property.

But if it was private propery, why was the council involved in either the eviction (it would have been a court order, enforcable by the bailiffs) or the clear up costs??

If crime went down (Which it would if proper sentancing was applied) then the judges and all the other 'hangers on' would have NO JOB so of course they do everything they can to avoid this.

If that means handing down pathetic sentances then so be it.

Don't ever think that being a judge makes you an honourable person
Thank you. I have said as much in the past, though in an ironic way. If it is true that they do this for their own benefit, and that it can be proved that they do so, then there should be severe consequences for them.

Alternatively, the government should set minimum sentences for each given crime. Additional penalties when appropriate could also be specified.

Another alternative, which I have stated before, could be public election of judges which could be based on their history of convictions and sentencing.

Have they been charged with damage to public property?

If I did something similar, I would certainly be charged and convicted and would, at least, be obliged to pay restitution.

I think the Artful Dodger sees himself as a defence lawyer!

All very well, and I agree that the judiciary appears to be failing in what the four criteria for appropriate sentencing should be (we'll not bother with discussing those (yet) so as not to muddy the focal point of this part of the thread), but where exactly does one intend to incarcerate them? Never mind wishful thinking, look at what is actually available.
