Electric cars and future jobs in the car industry

With electric car production now increasing the question of jobs in the car industry will become important. It seems manufacturers, such as Lotus, are already facing this and jobs in the production of electric cars are being created.

"Sports car manufacturer Lotus has announced production of a new prototype which will create 250 jobs.

The firm said it was investing £100m at its headquarters in Hethel, near Norwich."

"Car manufacturer Lotus has announced plans to set up a new technology centre to help develop the next generation of sports cars.

Located on the University of Warwick's Wellesbourne Campus, it will include offices, workshops and laboratories.

Initially bringing in 130 engineers, the company said it created "capacity for many new jobs".

They are expected to complement the 500-strong engineering team at its base in Hethel, Norfolk."

Well it's a start Baz, but there will be a way to go to replace the tens of thousands of jobs lost in the conventional motor industry.

Yes, it is a start OGF. Lotus are one of the few still producing cars in this country. They are sports cars admittedly but perhaps with electric cars there might be a chance of more jobs producing electric cars for the average motorist. Maybe even some of those jobs that were lost in the past might return.
