£40,000 for a Ford escort

A ford escort goes under the hammer today with a reserve price of 30k, it’s expected to reach 40k with interest from america and Australia, ….it was the one Prince Charles bought Diana as a wedding gift….so, if we all club together….

It wouldn't surprise me at all if it reached well beyond the £40k, there will be a lot of interest from America which will boost the final sale price massively I reckon.

Coincidentally I was checking on the cost of the latest Ford Mustang electric car as I saw your thread. I think for me one of these would be far more preferable to the Escort we are posting about, sentimental connections aside, I am not one for any of that. Look at the price though, "price from £55,255", note "from" but probably less than that Escort will eventually fetch!

Those Escorts were very popular back in the day, Charles was a bit of a cheapskate though, not very street cred for a princess...

I fancy a drive in that Mustang though Baz....
Bet it costs a lot to keep, and if you parked it round here you would always be taking it in for a respray after it keeps getting 'keyed' by the local pond life...

She must have been worth at least a top of the range Capri, if of course it had to be a Ford!

Yes, that Mustang does look very nicely styled. I bet the performance will be good, even for an electric vehicle. Costs I expect will come down as electric vehicles become the 'norm'. 'Pond life' like that should be locked away for at least FIVE years, they wouldn't do it again I doubt. That's the way society has gone unfortunately, probably also the subject of another thread too!

Re: £40,000 for a Ford escort

I had a two door Mk1 Ford Escort, it remains to this day the only car I bought for less than I sold it for.

It was a nice looking car spoilt (as so many British cars were) by being underpowered, in this case the fault was doubled by adding a crossflow head without redesigning the block making points adjustment or replacement near impossible.

My wife had a ,Mk2 boxy ugly thing fit for a Princess with a terrible auto gearbox.

The final hammer price was £47k. The rest was made up of auction house fees for the buyer and VAT. The vendor wouldn't receive the £47k though because the auction house would take it's cut from that (probably around 10-15%)
