England v Ukraine? Politics in Motion!

How Politics plays out in Football!

1) England supporters not allowed in to Rome!

2) Russians said to be incandescent because Ukraine may be getting some glory whilst all that Russia can do is hover around British ships over there. Watch out for Red Interference!

They will be allowed in if they meet Italian Covid requirements. Though I hardly suspect that any supporters will have been there for the five day quarantine period.

Similarly, Swedish supporters who didn’t live in the UK weren’t allowed to travel to Scotland for the match against Ukraine.

Japan won’t be allowing foreign spectators into the country for the Olympics.

It’s all down to each individual country’s regulations.

Now is the time for Boris,( or Frosty) to stick their oar in and insist
on the fans only needing to take a covid test on entry and prove
having a vaccination Ted?
I mean, just look Wimbledon and Wembley this week , looks like
the pandemic has ended suddenly to me?

Hum? That is true Ulabi, but as Ted says politics has a way of
intruding in sport matters quite often??

That’s always been the case. The Berlin Olympics 1936 spring easily to mind. After only congratulating German and some Finnish gold medallists on the first day Hitler was told by the IOC that he should congratulate all or none at all. He chose the latter option.

The African American athletes were also snubbed by President Roosevelt, only white athletes were invited to the White House. The African American athletes weren’t recognised until 2016.

Then of course we have Moscow 1980 and Los Angeles 1984

In motion? Yes, it is but not just there. What the heck has the Asian town of Baku got to do with this Euro Cup so that matches are played there? Why does UEFA bow to the interests of that ruler?

You may well ask Dachs?
I believe it is for the same reasons that F1 races there ?

So politics wherever you look. And money talks. The F1 circus has never been a European event, though.

Look at it the other way. All the semi finals and final are taking place at Wembley which means any fan entering the UK from abroad has to isolate for 10 days which means they would miss the semi final and final. The only fans who can go to the games are those who live in the UK. So spare a thought for all those abroad who cannot enter the UK.
