Congrats, England. Stunning performance. Now the gate is wide open for England to become European Champion. About time.

F1, has always raced in Europe right from its conception in 1950, but it is a global sport

OK, Primus, never say never.
But when it comes to politics in sport that is a phenomenon appearing later, didn't it?

I’m not so sure, I think politics has always been around in some form or another in sport…

Copied from one of my earlier comments.

That’s always been the case. The Berlin Olympics 1936 spring easily to mind. After only congratulating German and some Finnish gold medallists on the first day Hitler was told by the IOC that he should congratulate all or none at all. He chose the latter option.

The African American athletes were also snubbed by President Roosevelt, only white athletes were invited to the White House. The African American athletes weren’t recognised until 2016.

Then of course we have Moscow 1980 and Los Angeles 1984

A lot of Ukrainian and Italian fans booed the taking of the knee by the English team

I agree to that as I pointed out in my earlier post(s). The degree and intensity of such interference might vary. The more interesting question might be: If that is the case and commonly accepted, why do some people complain about the interference of politics in sport, and what's more, do that selectively?
