I believe that was the reason Pats. We went for a day out somewhere or other (can't remember now) but it was to look at caves (another passion I have) and there was a replica olde worlde village and one of the shops took photos as they would have been taken back then and the instructions were not to smile, not to move, not to fidget and just look either straight at the camera or off to the side. Must have enjoyed it as we had 3 photos done: my hubbie as a gangster, my son (aged 12 then) as a wanna be gangster and me as a ganster's moll; the other was a real Clarke Gable and Vivien Leigh type shot and the third was as local, ordinary folk of that time).
