Forums - why the need?

A general internet forum. Why do people feel the need to join? Is it to socialise or is it for entertainment? Are we all "people" persons?

I like to be part of a nice open forum. I find the posts interesting and enjoy posting myself. Yes I'm a people person , interested in people, their lifes and opinions .

Me to Susan. I'm definitely a people person. Forums teach you so much about people. Positive and negative.

Re: Forums - why the need?

Forums are good for people to post and communicate with others, people who otherwise would maybe not see anyone, or have anyone to speak to for maybe days at a time. Forums can and are fun and give many people I am sure something to do that raises their spirits. Also it is a place where someone can ask advice from others. Long live the forums.

It was actually my son who asked the question. I couldn't really give him an answer. I have been to!d by others I'm obviously bored and lonely. I don't actually think I am!

Re: Forums - why the need?

I enjoy forums but have to have a break occasionally, I enjoy a chat and also it's nice just to read others' comments even if you don't feel like joining in at times.
Not sure I'm a people person, really.

Re: Forums - why the need?

I'm used to chatting in pubs and as I don't go there as often now I suppose the best way to keep up with what's going on and what others think about the way the world is heading is to join a good forum, besides I have got some great advice and tips on here, not to mention all the laughs.

Re: Forums - why the need?

While I can and do see real people over at the allotment, it can be only for a few minutes, or a few hours, but you don't (or I don't personally) get the full attention I'd like. On a forum your thoughts and comments are posted and kept, for others to read/listen to/reply to/comment on.

On a forum I can't see people's eyes glazing over with boredom! or I don't get anyone butting in when I'm talking. I can also take my time in choosing words, rather than blurting out crap. (Which I probably still do!)

I say, long live forums.
