Cannes dress code fiasco

Is there anything more sexist and frankly ridiculous than the Cannes film festival turning away women who aren't wearing high heels?

Dress code is fine, but this latest news is insulting to women and I'm horrified that women can be dictated to like this.

That's a rule that should be abolished.

Its ridiculous. I don't see the difference a pair of high heels would make to anything or anyone.

It's because black tie means high heels for women, and dictates the suit and tie the man wears, but in this day and age really ???

Also understand a disabled woman was turned away because she is unable to wear them if that is true they should be ashamed of themselves for their lack of equality training !

Re: Cannes dress code fiasco

It sounds a sexist demand unless it includes the men too
Maybe sensible people who won't be told what footwear to put on will stay away...

Well it does sort of include men as they have to dress black tie too just their uniform doesn't include the heels.

It doesn't seem really sexist to me but it does seem stupid as many people cannot walk in them.

Re: Cannes dress code fiasco

I think the people concerned were in their 50s and one had a painful ankle so couldn't wear heels.
I suppose if they let the dress code slip, people will be turning up in trainers in no time. There aren't many places where strict dress code applies and the red carpet is one of them.
I think if that was the only issue we had to worry about the world would be a happy place.

Stupid and shallow.

There is no place for this kind of discrimination anymore.

It's all about Chic and Fashion and to look good on the red carpet, and getting in and out of the car.. It's ridiculous but i expect there's some turning up off the beach in their flip flops.....
