New Words

I love learning new words. I was stuck on a four letter word in a crossword. The clue was a grassy mound, I had ump. Tump was the answer, never heard Tump before.
Yesterday, I was asked by this guy, if I had a spare straight???? He did mumble, I asked him four times to repeat his request. I usually get asked if I have any spare change, so I was thinking along the wrong wavelength. Eventually, he said cigarette. I have never heard the term straight for a cigarette.
So I learned two new words.

Do you like learning new words?
Do you have any for us?

I love words/phrases Sweetie. About the only subject at school I liked was English. Wherever we travel I try to learn a bit of their language.

Well, in Bulgaria the word for Latte is Watte.
Now I asked, who I thought was a Bulgarian waitress for Watte. What did I get???? Water - She was Russian.

Re: New Words

Sometimes there is only one option for a crossword clue even though we have never heard the word before. I don't think I learnt any new ones today, in fact I probably forgot a few.

New words.
Mansplaining, refers to the action of a man explaining something to a woman in a condescending way.

Even if you’ve never heard of the word “hangry”, chances are you’ve experienced that crippling state of feeling both starving hungry and increasingly angry at the same time.
