He'l be ok IMO, apparantly millons of uk tourists to eu
will be looking for somewhere to go this year. And it sems
Plans are being promulgated to revive an old tradition among
Uk working classes, for working holidays, ie, picking hops
picking potatoes & fruit etc, which are seasonal occupations
and so kill two birds with one stone!
This was also looked on as a social event, and often resulted
in romance etc!
So the thesis that farmers will suffer from tighter immigration
rules could not be true? and indeed if the plans outlined
above come to pass, it could result in an improvement to
uk's social & health problems!
Plus, should also improve our balance of trade figures!

Regards Donkeyman.

Re: The fruit farmer

This illustrates very well one of the main criticisms of the EU
Freedom of Movement simply lowers wages
It also has the undesirable effect of importing a large migrant population with no understanding of, or sympathy for, the traditions and culture of indigenous populations

Lower wages reduce production costs and make the product cheaper. If your fruit farmer is required to pay british workers his competiveness vanishes. Free market economy, you know. Britains first contribution to the EEC, setting them on course to an EU.

That shortage of workers from the EU is due to the weak pound. He should employ British people instead.

You are ever so right! He should also pay them the wages he gives to workers from other EU countries. For the moment there is no EU vs UK, as the UK is still one of the members. At least till friday.

Did you read my previous post Solash?
The british tourist wrkers do it for free, they save the money
they would have spent on expensive acommodation and
airfares, and put it in the bank, then they take unpayed
work on the farms in exchange for farm acomodation and
two meals a day in return for eight hrs work.
A totally WIN WIN situation for uk?
Our citizens will be having a new experience, better food
fresh air exercise, all things we are told we need more of!
So what do you thnk Solash?

Regards Donkeyman
