Re: Rupert & Gagas kits!!

They are so cute. My OH used to keep ferrets but he went shooting quite a lot back then. Here in Spain they are very expensive, we've seen them at 80 euros each.

Re: Rupert & Gagas kits!!

Im not sure what 80 Euros is in pounds but mates rates here is about £10, friend of a friend £20 and then theres stacks that are given away free usually pet homes. Mine are working lines bred and thats why they aren't free, plus I only breed if I have people wanting my kits... too many in rescue to do it for any other reason. A lot of people are too lazy to find a vasectomised hob to borrow or have their own done so they go on having litter after litter every year. Jills have to be brought out of season yearly or they can die. The jill jab is done at the vet but isnt always a success, the best thing is a vasectomised hob who can offer his services but produce no babies.

80 euros is just over £64 Cassie. We couldn't believe it when we saw some for sale at that price, that was 3/4 years ago, probably more expensive now.

Re: Rupert & Gagas kits!!

About 6-8 weeks when they are properly weaned They will be nip trained at about 5 weeks.. they bite everything so they have to learn not to bite hard. My workers will have a little tune played everytime the mother is fed from next week and eventually they'll realise that tune means food It makes it easier when out hunting and I need them to come up out of a warren. I usually use a ringtone on my phone as its always with me.

That's really cool! Can you post notes as you do the training? I'd be interested in hearing about it.

Re: Rupert & Gagas kits!!

The kits at 3 weeks old. Andy saw Gaga take them all out of their bed today and into the run part of their hutch where she lay down & let them suckle. I missed it with the camera sadly but I took these when I got downstairs.
