And since when has our media ever reported good news?
You can't get to hear about what they won't publish if you're determined not to look for it.

Yes, isn't it amazing how these hard-up lorry drivers can afford to drive all the way to the other end of the country AND pay congestion charges on top just to honk their horns?
Meanwhile the Spanish are going without their traditional Paella and the French without their beloved shellfish.
(We will ignore that many of these are certainly devout and disgruntled SNP supporters too who campaigned for independence in 2014, shall we?)

They are revising history on their claims of frictionless trade. We have never had frictionless trade with anyone.

The only frictionless trade that exists is within the UK, to and from Scotland, Wales, NI and England. Sooner or later Sturgeon is going to have to face the music in her lies and deceit

Re: Thank God We are Out of the EU ...

Looking at those lorries driving around in London it seems they all
belong to large corporate fishing businesses, not to
the smaller family owned businesses that brexit was meant to
benefit?
These corporations are only doing business with EU , and as such
obviously do not want to change things?
Could it be that they are deliberately misunderstanding the new
rules etc???

Donkeyman! 🤔🤔

Well they've only had four-and-a-half years notice that there was going to be change because we were leaving the EU.

Either they couldn't be bothered to look at what these changes would mean for their businesses in that time, or they didn't believe that we would really leave and so they will use the opportunity to complain as loudly as possible to distract from their own incompetencies for not preparing for the inevitable change.

What's the old saying about not putting all your eggs in one basket?
If you are determined just to use the one you would think that they would do their best to look after it, rather than letting it wear and develop holes.

Re: Thank God We are Out of the EU ...

Related to the above from the Financial Times is a report about increasing difficulties and soaring costs with shipping between Europe and China.
This is certain to increase prices on Chinese-sourced goods.

"The cost of shipping goods from China to Europe has more than tripled in the past eight weeks, hitting record highs as a shortage of empty containers stemming from the pandemic disrupts global trade.

The cost of shipping a 40-foot container from Asia to northern Europe has increased from about $2,000 in November to more than $9,000, according to shippers and importers."

"A recent survey by IHS Markit found that, in December, eurozone manufacturing suppliers’ delivery times reached the worst levels since the height of pandemic-related lockdowns last April, and delays in transportation and general goods shortages at suppliers “were widely reported”.

Surveyed companies said they were running down their stocks of raw materials and semi-manufactured goods, resulting in falling inventories, and reported a rapid increase in input prices."

Re: Thank God We are Out of the EU ...

Here's a far more likely reason as to why those truckers spent so much on a publicity stunt:

'Scottish Tories say the SNP is “not lifting a finger” to help Scottish fishing exports while the IT failures in the UK and France have been “quickly cleared up”. '

' Checks in Scotland are performed by Scottish Government agencies, and Jimmy Buchan of the Scottish Seafood Association said that a check that should take no more than one hour “is taking nearly five hours.”

He added: “The problem is definitely in Scotland, at the hubs prior to dispatch. It’s the one thing that we have continuously asked Government, are they ready? They kept asking us, were we ready? And we are ready, but it appears that Government are not.” '

The report runs both sides of the argument but one thing that jumped out at me was this:
' “We have warned for months about the lack of preparation time for everyone involved and these problems sadly come as little surprise.
“There are now a lot of bureaucratic steps to navigate in getting product from Scotland into France .... '

A lack of preparation time?

Blimey, isn't almost 5 years enough?
Because that's roughly how long we've known that we were leaving the EU and anybody with an ounce of common sense knew that would mean changes.
Did these people really not think to look at how other extra-EU exporters of fish into the EU like China; Ecuador; Morocco; or even Iceland and Norway (where fish are not part of the EEA agreement) traded with the EU ........ in almost five years?

Obviously not, in which case all that can reasonably be said is that it serves them right.

Exactly, Zaphod. The SNP have been slowing down exports deliberately.

Their single policy of independence is far more important than their businesses or economy. After all they will just come cap in hand to Westminster as usual.

The SNP should try doing their job for a change.

And at least 14 of the drivers have been fined for the pleasure of doing so https://metro.co.uk/2021/01/19/seafo...test-13926979/

In the actual paper version, the article goes on to add that some of the companies' IT is so old it can't handle the new "paperwork" and one truck was turned back because the driver's documents stated the load was of "GB origin" rather than of "UK origin". Now, to me, what the difference between GB and UK is, I've absolutely no idea because I've always used the 2 interchangeably.
