Re: Eurostar in cash crisis !!

Only for passengers, on the shuttle you stay in the vehicle.

Not all Eurostar services stop at Calais.

The big ole is only rented by the train owner though! Just like the
crap franchise system we have in the UK !!
Apparently it saves the nvestors millions in maintenance and
insurance costs which taxpayers have volunteered to pay. ???

Re: Eurostar in cash crisis !!

I see today that French junior transport minister Jean-Baptiste Djebbari says the French government will help Eurostar.
He also says that the French are talking to the UK government too but that holds no stake unlike the French.

As has been said before, it's quite simple: if Eurostar (the operator) fails then another operator will be appointed in their place, just as happens with our own train operators.

Re: Eurostar in cash crisis !!

Am I the only person that loves France & the tunnel?

The first time I traveled in the Tunnel I was terrified, but after a couple more journeys I loved it and thought it was the best way to get France, and many other places.
It is fast and I loved having a snack & half a glass of wine on the journey, in our own car!
I will be sad if the tunnel has outlived it's use , just because of Covid19

Eurostar is majority owned by the French state-backed rail firm SNCF

The Government sold its stake in the business to private companies for £757 million in 2015.

The 40 percent stake was sold before the general election in 2015 by the UK in order to pay off its debts.

Christophe Fanichet, head of SNCF Voyageurs, last week warned Eurostar was in a “very critical” situation.

He said the issue was the company was seen in the UK as a French business not supported by the Government.

But he also claimed in France the firm is seen as a UK-based businesses not aided by Paris.
Well they can't both be right, can they?

The information I have read suggests that we are correct and the Frogs are lying.

We must remember that they are our enemy and will do anything to cause us harm and, worse, our own government and other authorities always seem to give in to them.

We appear to be our own worst enemy!

I believe they were - until they started due diligence and looked at the books!
