Re: Do You Ever Have A Nice Kipper For Breakfast?

I do like both these fish, but don't eat them a lot because they are high in fat. Gotta think of my cholesterol.

Mups, There are good and bad fats. These fish contain Omega 3 which is good for you.
I have raised cholesterol levels..6 but my doctor said, it’s good cholesterol.

Quote.....Are kippers good for cholesterol?
Yes. They do this by lowering cholesterol and reducing the 'stickiness' of blood. Kippers also contain vitamin D and vitamin B12. One study showed that men who ate kippers three times a week had a lower death rate from all causes than those who reduced their fat intake or increased their dietary fibre.

I don't like the bones in kippers but I like the taste ...
I prefer smoked wild salmon, no bones. Not the stuff from fish farms though and not for breakfast, that has to be porridge and nothing else.

I like most fish. I often have a kipper and a poached egg for breakfast. I never notice any bones.

I love kippers and poached eggs too but rarely eat them. In fact, IIRC, the last time I did have them for breakfast was about 20 years ago in a hotel just outside of Dartmouth.

I like kippers but stopped buying them when Mr Mags refused to eat them because of the bones ..... can't be bothered to cook them just for me.

Never tried kipper with poached eggs, but we often have smoked haddock with eggs, probably once a fortnight or so.

Aah... thanks Barry! I'll look out for those if and when I next go to a supermarket.

I take them out of the packet and cook for a few seconds in the microwave on a covered plate. The skin peels off easily. I don't like the skin.
