Brilliant sunshine, but so cold the snow is not melting.

I have cleared the path from my back door 5 times now..
Last year, I treated myself to some kind of defrosting salt that came in big plastic tubs from Lidl... Being sceptical, I sprinkled handfuls of the stuff on my drive and paths and within an hour, the snow had melted and any further snow didn't stick. Used it again this year with the same results on my path so that the postman wouldn't slip.

Might be worth checking out.

Thanks Judsy, but rock salt can be dodgy around dogs.
It can sting their pads - especially if they're cracked, but worse still, can upset their tummy's if they lick it off.

Best to wash dogs feet a.s.a.p. if they've walked in it.
Thanks again anyway, but I daren't use it.

Salt only works if the temperature is above about -2 or -3°C, otherwise any snow or ice will remain frozen because the salt concentration in the water (from any molten snow or ice) will be too low to be effective.

Re: We have Snow

This is the scene with the snow at its heaviest yesterday. If there had been more today, I was going to make a big snowball or maybe even a snowman. There was no more. Saved a bit of effort I suppose.
