Leap Year Birthday.

Anyone on the forum have a birthday that falls on February29th?If so do you celebrate on non leap years on February 28th or March 1st?
I have a friend who's daughter was born in a leap year and celebrates her non leap year birthday on March1st.Quite apt because it's St.David's day and we are Welsh!

Re: Leap Year Birthday.

Hi Rae I don't but I have known a number who do and they celebrated their birthdays on 28th of February

If you are Welsh March 1st sounds good to me and I would be happy to receive a bunch of daffodils too. Could there be a more cheerful flower or a better herald of spring

Re: Leap Year Birthday.

My father had his namesday (almost as important as birthday in Polish tradition) on 29th and this too was celebrated on 28th in non-leap years.

Good question, Jem. It has to do with saints. Is your grandson called Patrick? Don't know why the Irish didn't adopt the custom as another excuse for a hooly. I always thought it was something to do with Catholicism, but not sure why. Do the Spaniards also celebrate namesdays, I wonder?

Re: Leap Year Birthday.

I'm told Patrick is originally a Roman name, He's called Patrizio, same thing really.
