Patsy that's a wax for casting, all cast jewellery have to have a wax impression before they are cast in whatever metal, the wax is then put into a steel 'cup' then filled with a kind of white plaster called investment, when it hardens it's put into a furnace and the wax is burned out leaving the impression inside, gold, silver, or any metal is then poured in to fill the impression, it's called 'The Lost Wax' casting method.
