Train Fares!

Not sure if this should be here or in the Grumpy Corner! I want to visit my cousin who lives in a Care Home due to severe Parkinson's Disease. So - just been to the railway station to buy a ticket to Burton upon Trent. Standard return cost = £112, Single there and Single back = £38.
Madness rules !!

There seems to be little logic left these days where the railways are concerned

Re: Train Fares!

When I was in the UK last year I was horrified by the rail fares and the way you had to spend hours searching for the best deal. In Hungary all public transport within the country is free to anyone over the age of 62. My friend in the UK, who comes to visit most years, was astounded when I told her that as an EU member she was also eligible to free transport - all she had to do was produce her passport at the ticket office!

Re: Train Fares!

We are going to Bournville Thursday to visit DD & Family.
We will go from here to Liverpool St,[Greater Anglia] go on the underground To Euston, get on a Virgin train to Bournville. 3 hours 50 mins. Then do the return journey 5 days later.
All for the princely sum of £31.50 for 2, bargain or what ?
