Given his understanding of the situation, it seems even more important for him to remain on script and avoid glib comments. As you've pointed out, he's not an experienced politician who can whack out a load of words without actually saying anything of import. But, as a businessman, he'll surely know how to avoid saying things that could damage his business??? He does seem to have a few too many "Ratner" moments

Trump's handlers have been unable to keep him from making a complete fool of himself in public, so they have curtailed his participating in the "daily briefings."
He can not face the press until the "disinfectant" crisis has passed.

There is a reason that the disinfectant makers had to go public with messages that told people in clear language to NOT injest disinfectants.
People who will not accept the evidence are the only ones trying to "spin" the story.
To defend the President on this issue is evidence of either "Blind" obedience, or an intentional attempt to misrepresent the story.
There is a reason, that Trump has been removed from answering press question.
