Re: Beware new speed cameras

Hi

Cruise control is the answer.

I set mine using the Sat Nav, far more accurate than my speedo.

It is invaluable when it comes to average speed cameras.

Re: Beware new speed cameras

I don't have to worry now about any speed cameras as I am not allowed to drive because of eyesight problems

Jeez, what a horrible thing to happen.

Is it a permanent disability or is there any corrective surgery available?

Re: Beware new speed cameras

Thanks Realist, very helpful I use motorways quite often and like to crack on so will keep alert. I used to find that as a courier and mostly driving alone there were few distractions. These days however, I often drive with four people in the car including me so I try not to get too involved with discussion. Driving certainly has changed since the old days, still love it though.

Re: Beware new speed cameras

We have these cameras on the M1 around Luton and Bedfordshire, but they are not ordinary speed cameras, they are Average Speed Cameras that record your speed between each set of cameras, so if you have slowed down for the camera and then speed up again until you see the next set of cameras then you are in for a shock because the speed taken will be the average speed you have achieved between the 2 sets of cameras.

No that's not correct.

These are laser cameras not ave speed cameras. The average speed cameras are the ones you see mounted on high yellow poles along a stretch of road.

This new camera system being rolled out is called HADECS3 and is a sophisticated laser system.

"A single Hadecs3 camera is able to track dozens of cars a minute over four lanes of traffic at speeds of 12-186mph. Existing speed cameras on motorway gantries usually cover only a single lane. The Hadecs3 is also cheaper to maintain than conventional speed cameras because it does not need road markings. Instead of using painted white lines to give a backup calculation of a car’s speed, each Hadecs3 box contains two radars that give independent readings.

Pictures of offending vehicles are taken from the rear and will include the limit in force at the time. The cameras can also be used to catch motorists who ignore or miss the electronic red X signs indicating that a lane is closed."
