Good idea. We should do the same. Rockall springs to mind!

Of course, you could conduct a long-term scientific experiment. Leave them in the middle of that big desert of yours, leave them a few camels and allow no contact with humanity. Keep looking back at them every few decades to see whether they've developed their civilisation at all.

Come back when you know something about it.

Economic migrants are something we definitely don't want! First they are illegal immigrants so have no right to come here. Second many are poorly educated and unlikely to be an asset to Europe, so will be a drain on our benefits system. Third if they had wanted to improve their lot then showing a little respect to the countries who take them in would be a good start. By saying NO to them we are just following the example of Austalia, who don't seem to want any immigrants who cannot financially look after themselves.

Here are some of the most common misconceptions:

'Immigrants are coming here for benefits'

I can only assume they are coming here for the lovely weather then.

'Migration causes crime'

Tell that to the people of Paris, Munich and Cologne.

'It puts a strain on public services, hospitals and schools'

Presumably, these immigrants bring with them a proportionate number of doctors, healthcare professionals and teachers.

Who writes this crap? I'd always had the Independent down as a reliable, honest and unbiased newspaper!

Well that's your prerogative.

Personally, I don't always believe statistics. As we all know, statistics can be made to prove whatever you want them to prove. And I certainly don't believe all government statements.

For example, the article states that "European immigrants to the UK pay more in taxes than they receive in benefits, effectively subsiding public services". Do illegal immigrants pay taxes? Do people on benefits pay taxes? (I wonder whether IZAL terrorists pay taxes!)

No, my statements are based on common sense.
