There are all kinds of ways to penetrate software systems.

One of the most versatile and insidious enables the programmer to enter computer language code into a form meant for conveying input to the program, and have the victim's programs execute it! This is one of the most frightening in my opinion.

It seems the business world generally is very vulnerable, and most companies use new technology. So do all our really important organisations like the utility companies. OK so we can do without some organisations for a while but others we need to just survive.

Re: A vulnerable society

Another example of our vulnerability occurred on December 27th 1983. There was a fire in an electric transformer station about five miles from where we live that caused a power cut that plunged the whole of southern and central Sweden into darkness. Paradoxically, the area nearest the transformer station ie us didn't get our power back until the following day.

The kids thought it was lovely, candlelight, snuggling up in blankets etc but the costs to society were enormous.

Knocking out one or two strategically placed facilities can create total havoc.
