They can start by not buying the latest mobile phones, going on holiday twice a year, buying new BMWs on HP, staying in at weekends, getting a proper job and not blowing a lot of their earnings on drugs, alcohol and Netflix.

Re: Affordable homes

One reason many are living in rented accomodation is because they can,t afford. Mobile phones, Going on holiday twice a year, BMWs, Drugs, Alcohol and Netflix let alone the deposit for a so-called affordable home of their own.

Very true Ben!
Huge estates are being built and houses snapped up by Buy to Let landlords before anyone else gets a look in.
Rents here are upwards of £150 a week for small one or two bedrooms, it can be £250+ for a modest 3 bed.
Whereas Social Housing is from £85 ish, if you can get on list and get extremely lucky after several years of waiting and don't mind where you live, then you have to be able to pay a deposit.

Re: Affordable homes

My niece and her partner and new baby live in Surrey, he works in London earning a good salary she is on maternity leave at present but works in HR on a good salary . They save each month for their own home . Recently they offered £500 grand tops for an ex council house ( semi detached ) the property was selling for £525 grand . They didnt get the property .

These are two hard working young people who are paying £1100 to rent a house because of property prices .

£525 thousand for an ex council property!

Re: Affordable homes

There should be NO government houses aka Council Houses.

Seriously.

Governments have no money so building houses using our tax money is simply wrong.

Council houses were first built in Liverpool because of a need that ceased to exist country wide around the 1930's. Post war housing was a genuine pressing need but by the mid 60's this had ceased to exist but by then a sense of entitlement had emerged.

Today there is a pressing need for additional housing but this is horribly increased by immigration of all forms. Kicking illegals and failed and bogus asylum seekers would reduce the UK population by MILLIONS for a start.

New housing should be provided by the private sector with the return of high density and basic dwellings and certainly a return of tower blocks.

I find the very idea of use of our taxes to provide ANY housing atrocious and housing to the same standard as those that we have had to pay for, often taking years of varying degrees of probation simply obscene.

Re: Affordable homes

The way to solve the housing problems is to just build more houses. It also has the added benefit of getting rid of the popularity of socialism.

AT You say there should be no government house aka council houses.
I am too polite to say what I think of that remark.
