Scammed of £70,000 with one phone call …

Just one phone call and £70,000 was gone!

The answer must be to ignore any phone calls from any organisation asking for personal information or details. Just do not divulge any information to anyone unless you instigate it.

"The former Blue Peter presenter warned viewers to be careful not to fall into the same trap. ‘I got phoned up by the bank, told something dodgy had gone on with my account,’ she told Lorraine Kelly. ‘The next week I had £70,000, all of my savings, had gone. All gone.’"

I watched her on a programme tonight on ITV at 7.30pm. It was all about scams, like the one she fell victim to. The good news is, her bank agreed to refund the 70,000. These rotten bastards target mainly elderly people, and it's crime that is increasing alarmingly.

It shows when, I think it was her, who said that only 3% of the reported scams like this resulted in anyone being caught!

In my opinion, the only people who would be unaware of these scams are those who are completely devoid of any forms of media outlets, albeit television, the newspapers and the radio.

Even before the introduction of the internet such scams took place and where was it reported, on the television, the newspapers or the radio. Even today there are adverts on the television and radio warning people of such scams, both even host specific programs which talk to victims and talk to experts on how to avoid such scams. Newspapers report on such things and give advice on how to avoid such scams.

Anyone remember the program That's Life with Ester Rantzen? they used to have a consumer help section on there, Gavin started it off then later on they had more specialist investigators. Even back then i remember them discussing about such scams.

Therefore, if people claim they are not void of using certain types of media to obtain their info on what is going on in the world, how are they able not to know about such scams and thus not able to protect themselves?

Re: Scammed of £70,000 with one phone call …

I use the Banking App on my phone most days, just a quick check to see everything is as it should be. Lately when it comes on there is a message about never giving anyone details over the phone about your accounts, even if the caller insists they are calling from the bank. It says to hang up straight away, report the call to the bank from another phone if possible, or by email.
