Re: Are you proud to be British?
Thanks for your responses.
My own point of view is that we still have a lot to be proud of, despite those who despise and make fun of this country, and I include many of our politicians. And, no, I'm not talking about Brexit.
It seems that there is less pride in our country amongst the younger people. Why should that be? According to the article, one influence on the millennials is the strongly left-wing leaning of university and college lecturers, who prefer to teach such things as Marxist politics whilst completely ignoring the history of this country. It seems that the good things we have done throughout history are not even worthy of mention; it is trendy to concentrate on the bad things.
Another influence in persuading people of all ages to be anti-British is the activities of our politicians and other authorities who, as many have said elsewhere on this forum, are incompetent at best and corrupt at worst. How can anyone be proud to be British when we see such things?
If you have read the readers' comments under the article, perhaps it should be pointed out that the Mail on Sunday is as far left-leaning as the Daily Mail is to the right!
On a personal level, I have always been proud to be British... until three or four decades ago, when my opinions began to change. Things have been happening in this country, mostly due to factors beyond my control, and it appears that we are presently on a bit of a downward slope.
Our only hope is that your young people will begin to see the stupidity of what they are being brainwashed into believing. Whether they do or not, the future lies in their hands and if they continue along their present course it is they who will have to live with the consequences.
