Re: Tracking Down the Origin of the Wuhan Coronavirus

China has fired its first shot in an increasingly bitter diplomatic row, threatening to slap major tariffs (believed to be up to 80%) on Australia's barley exports, that could rip hundreds of millions of dollars from the trade.

Relations between Canberra and Beijing have hit a fresh low in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, as Prime Minister Scotty from Marketing lobbies his counterparts for an international inquiry into the origins of the virus.

China's Ambassador to Australia Cheng Jingye had previously threatened his country would impose economic sanctions if Mr Morrison continued to push for the probe, in what Trade Minister Simon Birmingham described as "coercion".

Now, it appears China is set to make good on those threats and the first victims could be Australian barley growers.

Hmm!

If you don't dig down to find out where it came from, how will you stop it happening again?

The USA is, certainly & rightly digging quite deep.

The DT is telling us that NBC News has a report that there was "no mobile phone activity", in the Chinese laboratory complex, from Oct 7th to the 24th.

Apparently there was normal activity either side of that.

The suggestion is "hazardous event".

I like the odd conspiracy theory - someone has to look into it!

Er, if it means that Chinese companies don't import barley from Australia, they'll either source it elsewhere or change their products.

In either case, Australian farmers may be unable to sell their products, which were produced in sufficient quantities to satisfy a specific marketplace, which won't be there. Having a surplus stock with limited shelf life is not a good place to be in.

Re: Tracking Down the Origin of the Wuhan Coronavirus

The way that most Chinese people live even in suburban China in such close confines with their animals DOES result in diseases crossing the species barrier. This is particularly the case with water fowl and pigs crossing into primates, specifically us!

I'm not claiming that the Chinese Plague Covid-19 broke out in this way but certainly such bugs as H1N1 and the like were.

So it is likely to happen again. China does not seem to care until it affects those in power.

That's pretty right. 65% of our agricultural products are exported so any resistance to buying our output costs us money. We have a massive trade surplus with China, when China sneezes we catch cold.

None of our agricultural products are subsidised and compete against other big producers like South America and Canada.
