Boris may cut stamp duty

Politicians say anything to get in but this would be a positive move.

Lots of people are deterred from moving or downsizing because of the high cost of stamp duty

What would be a real winner is to reduce VAT levels then everyone would gain. Government would as more goods would be sold due to cheaper costs, and people gain because goods are cheaper so buy more.
Manufactures would gain as demand rises, leading to more employment to meet increased orders
Trade unions would also gain as having more members in work

simple things like this are beyond politicians brains to work out and understand

Unfortunately there are few degrees of freedom where VAT is concerned because of EU control.

Yet another reason to get free from the horrible thing that we NEVER voted to join.

Hi

We are still building up debt, we cannot afford to cut tax.

Cutting stamp duties ( a tax for doing nothing ) would increase social mobility .
People just can't afford to move .

In principle I agree but in practice reinvigorating a market sector can increase market activity that will see a gross increase in activity and a bigger return than the reduction in tax take.

It's like flogging smoked salmon!

What SHOULD be happening is reducing the outflow of money, what is called controllable expenses in the private sector.

Do this by reducing spending on Benefit payments, abolish foreign aid aka bunce to foreigners, cut back on "nice to haves" such as tax payer funded child care, and the like.

In short, get austerity measures under way again but this time like they're meant, purge out undocumented immigrants and their families, purge out bogus asylum seekers, and deport convicted criminals wherever and however it can be done.

Hi

Stamp Duty was last cut less than 2 years ago.

The cut in tax raised has been financed by more Government Cuts.

It pays for things that we need.

If you are downsizing it is no great shakes, legal fees and removal costs etc can be expensive however.

I am all for reducing Tax, but we should only do so when we have paid down our National Debt.

I have hugely downsized, but still have a 3 Bed with a large garden.

The entire costs of moving will be paid for in less than 3 years due to lower Council Tax and other bills.

Hi

Numerous complaints on here about seeing a GP, cuts to Policing Etc.

I am a cautious Northerner.

You pay your debt first.

Yes, I agree with you about Foreign Aid, look after our own first.

I am in Total Agreement with you about expelling the Illegals.

Dream on, no Political Party is prepared to do this.

Corbyn even wants to bring back ISIS fighters.

Do not trust the Tories either.

Before they cam to power we found them and deported them.

May stopped this.
