So far he is keeping to his brief. After all, it's the british begging for a deal. They can walk away any time they want.
And, it seems from today's result, our Mr Frost was sent into these negotiations with EXACTLY the same mandate. I agree, we can walk at any time, just like Barnier can. I'm sure Barnier is keeping this charade going just to save his boss' face.

Not clever with the japanese, australians and new zealanders watching.
Thats where your wrong.

We have asked for a basic FTA along the lines of what has been offered to Canada.

The EU and Barnier want us to stay in the EU in return for it, which is not only hilarious (as office boy Barnier is finding out) but also not what any other country has had to sign up to.

The EU wants to pick cherries with the UK - making us bold to the silly level playing field, giving away our fisheries etc. If the EU does not want what we are offering (remember the legal tests ???) then we walk away.

You should stop making things up and writing the first thing that comes into your head. A few facts, a few answered questions and the truth would go along way for you to engage in a sensible discussion about Brexit.

I'm sure that is an important reason for barnier not walking away, not getting the blame for the UK's downfall.

That is the reason the EU reciprocated with it's conditions for granting a deal, and what kind of deal is on offer. You are the asking (third) party. Stamping one’s feet and sreaming like a three year old wanting sweets at the supermarket checkout is hardly standing up to anyone. As usual in those circumstances, the adult is behaving calmly and not giving in to excessive demands. It might seem strange, but it’s exactly how it was predicted to be. Shame you didn’t listen when you had the chance...

Tusk offered it in March 2018

You really need to keep up with this Solasch.

The EU seems to have lied.... oh well, no surprise there then.

They can't agree even on the slightest thing:

EU chief negotiator Barnier said in a statement that "the next round of negotiations" would be 20 July and that there would be "discussions" in London next week, while the UK's David Frost said "talks will continue next week in London as agreed in the revised terms of reference".
As l predicted three years ago Solly, the cherry on the tree would
be the fishing debacle! And so it has turned out! At that time
fishing was kept in low profile and hardly got a mention in the
farcical excuse for negotiations at the time, maybe for good reason?
The british public are now aware of what a con the common
fishing policy really was! And now the eu can see it slipping away
and are using all means to prevent this!
Thank god for Frosty and Cummins !
As the saying goes, comes the hour. Comes the man!

Donkeyman! 👍👍😁😁👍👍

I am with you on this. IMO Barnier is doing exactly what his mandate dictates and I am more than happy that he was chosen for the job.

Still I do not envy him for this task to keep a nice smiling face till the end knowing full well that no agreement will be reached.

As you said it is about blaming.

Before talks even began we had noises off from the EU telling us it is not going to be easy and the allotted time for a trade agreement will not be long enough. Had they forgotten they agreed to this? Their once golden boy, Varadkar, had reminded us what a small country we are and that we would receive a warm welcome if we changed our minds. Dream on Leo.

The EU previously offered May a Canada style trade agreement but she and the remainers close to her wanted a much closer relationship instead. It would appear that this Canada +++ type of agreement is now only on offer with lots of strings attached. Cherry picking by the EU? It seems that Canada and Japan only got their deal because they were far away - the UK is on their doorstep. How many times did they tell us there would be no cherry picking? Some reasons why I think we are in a stronger negotiation position now:

1. May and Robbins are gone and the Civil Service have been threatened with reform/put back in their box.
2. EU export more to us than we sell to them. German car makers refer to the UK as "Treasure Island" because we are their most lucrative market. Just bought one myself.
3. We now have a united government and the PM has a stonking majority.
4. No more remainers traipsing off to Brussels whispering in their ear's telling them to play hard ball and this whole Brexit business can be overturned.

For three and a half years the EU hoped, with all the help and connivance from their Remainer friends over here, that somehow Brexit could be overturned. The GE last December should have put paid to that but I don't think the penny has dropped for the EU just yet. Mr Barnier was fond of reminding us, with barely concealed glee, that the clock is ticking. Ticking the other way now though isn't it?
