Mysterious radio signals from deep space detected

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-46811618

Astronomers have revealed details of mysterious signals emanating from a distant galaxy, picked up by a telescope in Canada. The precise nature and origin of the blasts of radio waves is unknown.

Among the 13 fast radio bursts, known as FRBs, was a very unusual repeating signal, coming from the same source about 1.5 billion light years away. Such an event has only been reported once before, by a different telescope.

So far, worldwide, scientists have detected about 60 single fast radio bursts and two that repeat. They believe there could be as many as a thousand FRBs in the sky every day.

There are a number of theories about what could be causing them. They include a neutron star with a very strong magnetic field that is spinning very rapidly, two neutron stars merging together, and, among a minority of observers, some form of alien spaceship.
IIRC, the first time that this happened, in 1961, the aliens created a Julie Christie clone .....

These FRBs are being detected with increasing regularity, though, and I'm intrigued by the possibilities of their propagation .....

If they ever receive intelligent transmissions there's no way on Earth they would tell us. They likely already have received them, maybe 30+ years ago. Why would they be interested in putting a man on Mars?

If aliens were that intelligent, they wouldn't bother contacting us.

Seriously though, sounds interesting. I think it has happened before and they all got excited but it was nothing in the end.

Nothing wrong with a Julie Christie clone. I made one once under the bed clothes with some clay and a torch.

Intention isn't required. Any planet capable of using radio signals is broadcasting to the universe from the moment they use radio. We've been broadcasting since we started using radio and TV.

Enigmatic fast radio burst pinned on magnetised dead star

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-54815687

The new discovery, reported in the journal Nature, was made by two independent radio telescope arrays in North America.

Co-incident observations by other astronomical facilities - both in space and on the ground - helped characterise the event and strengthen the interpretation.

The event itself occurred on 28 April this year. It lasted around a millisecond but was extremely luminous.

The source magnetar, a known object, has the slightly unwieldy designation of SGR 1935+2154.

Magnetars are a form of neutron star - strange, compact objects in which matter has been compressed into a very small volume. It's a state some normal stars can be reduced to when they run out of fuel and collapse in on themselves.

Magnetars, as the name might suggest, have intense magnetic fields - trillions of times more intense than Earth's field, for example.

Theory suggests these objects can flare energy that then shocks their surroundings, which in turn drives great emissions at radio and other wavelengths.
Fascinating ..... but still no Julie Christie clone .....

It's a well know fact that aliens have visited earth, while looking for intelligent life. They found no intelligent life and they left.

The original post will not yet have reached the nearest star because that is over 4 light years away. (Three more years to go)

Don't forget even the earliest radio signals from our planet are only 100 light years away which means only planets around about 500 stars know we are here.
