So it doesn't get lost in the Islamophobe babblings in this thread let's remember the leadership given by the NZ Prime Minister:"It is clear she is a lioness and that to call so many of our current leaders donkeys is a disservice to hardworking donkeys the world over.
She has communicated quickly and immediately, giving New Zealanders as much information as she could. She has given them a language in which to talk about the unspeakable, to vocalise the shock and sadness. “They are us,” she said simply of the dead and wounded. The “othering” of Muslims as separate, as somehow different, as not quite belonging, was felled in one swoop. “They are us.” New Zealand had been chosen because it was safe, because it was no place for hatred or racism. “Because we represent diversity, kindness, compassion, home for those who share our values. Refuge for those who need it.”
These values would not be shaken by the murders. To the killer, she said with absolute clarity: “You may have chosen us – we utterly reject and condemn you.”"

I have been living in New Zealand for a while now, and up until now Jacinda Ardern had been a bit of a laughing stock, for one her party (Labour) didn't win the last election (National got more seats) so got lucky. They are in a minority government with the greens and NZ first.For your information Jacinda has spent her whole career (if you call it that) in politics, first as a researcher, president of the International socialist youth! and political adviser to Tony Blair (great recommendation). She has never had a paid job outside politics.
She is great at grand standing and sound bites but when it comes serious politics she has failed.
The next NZ general election is next year and she was low in the polls.....The tragedy in Christchurch is just what she needed and boy is she playing the role with gusto-covering her head, she is the master of false emotion and grieving, if she can soak this for all it's worth then she will be in next time..
Remember she had Tony Blair as a tutor....she will go places!! IMO

I think AJ, that you are well wide of the mark. Adern is the most preferred PM by a large margin in the polls of the last year. I think possibly if you were here 125 years ago you would have been against giving women the vote.The MMP system that we use is much more fair to voters than the FPP system that you use , (together with a house of unelected toffs with lots of money and little compassion).
The wearing of the Hijab was simply a mark of respect. No she is not a Muslim but like most of us, respects the beliefs of others.
