Germany heading for recession ?

Germany set to enter RECESSION after it sees unexpected collapse
https://mol.im/a/6576821

He said the economy had been rocked by a 'perfect storm across all sectors.'
The collapse was so swift that Vitesen initially told his clients he did not believe the data was accurate.
Stefan Schilbe of HSBC told Business Insider that a recession was now likely, as Germany faces its lowest industrial production since 2008.
In recent days, evidence has been piling up that the eurozone recovery lost more momentum than anticipated at the end of 2018, particularly in Germany.

Hi

They are still better than the UK in GDP per person and operate a Budget Surplus, whereas we have to borrow.

The world economy is slowing down and the slowdown in China is hitting everyone.

I am not really too fussed by it all, it comes and goes in cycles.

The UK is forecast to be overtaken by France and India in the next couple of years, irrespective of Brexit,

Isn't this all being caused by Trump?

You can have schadenfreude about Germany but if they are in trouble it will affect us too.

Re: Germany heading for recession ?

Things are certainly not looking as rosy for France either. Macron's government are not sure if they will reach the 2.3 percent deficit target that was forecast a year ago in its 5-year budget plan. At the moment it's 1.7 percent.

Measures to reduce public spending will include cutting family and housing benefits, in addition to the controversial plan to stop pegging pensions to inflation. The government plan to cut 4,500 public jobs next year and over 10,000 in 2020, he said, with public broadcasting and the ministry of finance among potential casualties.

Cor, bet the shops are doing a roaring trade with yellow vests!!

Hi

Trump's trade war is affecting everyone.

Nothing we can do about so I don't worry.

It's not good for us if the French economy breaks down.

Agreed. I couldn't care less if the French economy suffers. In fact, I'd be highly amused if they should come crying to us as they have in the past!

Of course, we should help them just as much as they have helped us!

I can't laugh at other countries doing badly it tends to be the lower paid etc who suffer most but I can't help feeling they would be laughing at us if it were reversed.
