Re: Netanyahu deceiving Israel about peace chances
Of course the Israelis don't want peace.
It really wouldn't suit their fervent, dogged agenda of land expansion and nation state building.
Neither side really want it, unless it is on their own terms so it's now resulted in a stalemate. Each side is as bad as the other.
Thing is Israel is the stronger country with a heavy weight USA for backer so are getting way with murder ... quite literally.
If someone moved in and occupied the bottom of your own garden, illegally , under the dubious guise of claiming it was for their own survival and , then began to further encroach up your garden and built communities to house their own settlers, whilst deploying armed sentries claiming it was to 'keep peace and order' ... whilst meanwhile writing out rafts of official documentation annexing the occupied land they filched... would you feel aggrieved at the theft of your land?
Probably.
But go on a march or a riot and you'd likely get shot by an IDF sniper patrolling the area to protect Israeli survival.
I can't believe Israel are actually getting away with it.
International condemnation and criticism is fine but their critics appear to be toothless. Unlike bombing raids on Assad or sanctions against Iran.
But peace would not suit them as that implies some element of 'give and take' and compromise and after the atrocities of WW2 that is something post-war Israels are clearly not inclined toward. A fine robust stance in the search for survival.
No longer the underdog or the victim they do however risk becoming something else entirely.
